UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of UCSI Group, has relocated its headquarters from the federal capital to Kuching recently.

The new headquarters is located within the UCSI University, Sarawak Campus at Jalan Tun Jugah in Kuching. A full fledge Professional Conference Organiser (PCO), UCSI Communications is headed by Managing Director Gracie Geikie. She is assisted by the Director of Operation and Business Development Alice Fong.

The main scope of business of UCSI Communications is in MICE (meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition) industry and corporate communications (media management, advertising and publishing) as well as entertainment production.

Being a PCO, UCSI Communications will bid for events to held in Malaysia and also create new events which can further boost the MICE industry in the country.

Set up seven years ago in Kuala Lumpur, UCSI Communications will also establish Sarawak’s first commercial payment gateway platform for conference delegates and event organisers to pay for conference fees as well as online ticket sales. This payment gateway platform will also be made available for local event organisers to use at a minimal fee.

UCSI Communications is also a member of the Malaysia Associations of Conference and Event Organisers (MACEOS).

Meanwhile, both Gracie and Alice have vast experience in the hospitality and tourism industry as well as event management.

With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Alice will oversee the overall operations of UCSI Communications and she will be responsible for strategic development on promoting Sarawak as a preferred MICE destination. She will also promote the enhancement of the overall conference industry in the State.

Her industry experience includes working for international chain hotels like Hilton Kuching Hotel and Hilton Batang Ai Resort, where she had the opportunity to work in various departments including being the director of sales. She was also among the pioneer staff of Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) where she was entrusted to head the marketing division as director of sales.

Gracie has more than 30 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry. The former Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is also a certified trainer and corporate consultant.

Known for her business mindedness, Gracie has also been involved in restaurant, airline hospitality lounge as well as inbound tour and dive operations.

Besides being the managing director of UCSI Communications, Gracie is also the associate dean for the faculty of Hospitality and Management at UCSI University, Sarawak Campus and the director of UCSI Extension Sdn Bhd, another subsidiary of UCSI Group.

Currently, she is also very much involved in the human capital development in the hospitality and tourism industry.

During her four-year tenure as CEO of STB, Gracie had been involved and instrumental in bidding for the Geo-tourism Conference 2010 which was held in Mulu in April this year and the 17th World Interhash 2010 which was held in Kuching in July. She was also the brain behind the creation of the Miri International Jazz Festival which is held in May every year in Miri. The festival has been going strong in popularity among jazz music enthusiasts in the region since its inception five years ago.

She also played a significant role in elevating the standard of the Rainforest World Music Festival when she was the CEO of STB. The two music festivals were among some of the many international class events that Gracie had been involved with in the past.

Thus, it is only natural that Gracie together with Alice is aiming at elevating the conference and events landscape in the State to a higher level through the UCSI Communications.

They would work closely with the relevant ministries, government departments and agencies, local event organisers, exhibition suppliers and travel and tour agencies to further promote the MICE market.
